Stake dance attracts over 70 youth, most not members!

On the 9th of May, the Devonport Stake had it’s first youth dance for 2014. The theme for this dance was Twin Heroes. This was because of the sub theme for the youth this year, which is to bring a plus one to every stake youth activity. The idea was that you invited a friend thought of your hero and dressed the same. The night was a success with around 72 youth who attended, thought to be a record for a Devonport Stake youth dance.

I had a few comments from other youth saying how much more fun this stake dance was from all the ones they’d been to before, mainly because there were more people. I couldn’t agree more! The feel of the dance was that of excitement and energy. It is always so much fun to be able to come together as youth and enjoy a wholesome dance together. It was even more fun to share that experience with our non-member friends. I love meeting new people and so it was a fantastic opportunity also to be able to make new friends and to come closer together as youth. It is so important that we get to know each other and learn to help one another, and that doesn’t just go for the youth.

All the costumes were absolutly fantastic! Some of my personal favourites included Hi 5, Queen Esther and Kim Impossible. Prizes were given out to the best costumes on the night.  They went to Eliza Woodward and her friend who dressed up as the Incredibles as well as Macady Roberts and her friend who dressed up as characters from Alice In Wonderland. There was also a Photo Booth which was heaps of fun and a great way to capture the memory of the night.

We were so lucky to be able to have some non-member students from Devonport High School perform and help out with the music. I would like to say a massive thank you to them and let them know that all the youth absolute loved it! They were so talented and made the dance really special!

Overall the night was a huge success. It was a great way to start off this year's youth activities. I would also like to thank all those who spent time organising, preparing and setting up for the night, it really was amazing!  For all the youth who weren’t able to or did not come, I encourage you to come to the next stake youth activity. I promise you, if it is anything like the dance, you will not be disappointed!
